Thought for the Week

One of these days the people of Louisiana are going to get good government - and they aren't going to like it.
Huey Long

Good government only happens when the people working in it do their jobs, and do them well. Matthew Lesko

Announcements
  • Several Members gave happy dollars for a variety of reasons.
  • Anne Schultz, Richfield Chamber of Commerce attended our meeting

Program:  Tommy Thompson: "Whiskey in City Hall"

(Right) Tommy Thompson shared the Mpls stories.

Isadore Blumenfeld, commonly known as Kid Cann, was a Jewish-American organized crime figure based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for over four decades and remains the most notorious mobster in the history of Minnesota.
Born in Romania in 1901, when he was 2, his family emigrated to America. Isadore Blumenfeld grew up in North Minneapolis where he acquired the nickname “Kid Cann".
On June 21, 1981, Kid Cann – the best-known alias of the Minneapolis, Minnesota, crime king Isadore Blumenfeld – died, at the age of 80.

Tommy started working for the City of Minneapolis as the City Engineer in 1948.

Tommy remembers when how Prohibition created the Mob, with alcohol being smuggled in from Canada b the likes of Kid Cann.

3000 employees, $500 million dollar budget, and plenty of opportunity to pave miles of roads (650), and oversee the installation of 48 inch sewer pipes for 28 miles.

Tommy told of no suburbs back in his earlier days at Minneapolis. Perhaps villages, and small towns.
