President John DeBettignies welcomed members back for the first in-person meeting since March!

We welcomed frequent guest Mike Spencer, who thanked Barb Devlin for helping the St. Louis Park Sunrise Club with their club relaunch.   There were lots of Happy Dollars, mostly reflecting how nice it was to see one another in person again!  President John showed off the 2020-2021 Rotary Theme Banner, and distributed theme banner pins to those present.

Our speaker was Amy Markle, Richfield Recreation Director, who shared how recreation services are being delivered during the pandemic and led us on a tour of the planned off leash dog area within Roosevelt Park.
Modified programs during COVID include virtual and self-guided activities and mitigated outdoor programs to keep kids active, like soccer camp in pods of 10 children and making athletic equipment available for check-out by families.

Amy led a walking tour of what will become a leash dog park within Roosevelt Park.  The dog park will include separate areas for large and small dogs and feature amenities to stimulate dogs’ interest and activity. Pending approval of relevant ordinances, the dog park will be ready for a soft opening on October 8-10.   To ensure safe use, all dogs in the park will need to be licensed in Richfield.

Amy invited Richfield Rotary members to schedule additional meetings in Richfield Parks while weather permits.  She offered to meet us at Augsburg Park at an upcoming meeting to show us the area being developed as a universally accessible playground.
