Meeting Highlights

JUNE 6, 2019 Meeting Highlights

Guests and Happy Dollars

We welcomed our speaker, Mayor Maria Regan Gonzalez, along with three other visitors (pictured L to R) - current Rotarian Mike Spencer from the St. Louis Park Rotary Club,  and two former Rotarians, John DeBetttignies with RBCU, and Lee Mosher, an attorney specializing in real estate law.

There were lots of happy dollars for our guests and the Little Free Library project, which earned special recognition at the recent Rotary District Conference.  Thanks to those who helped out on June 1 Installation Day:  Jay Clark, Pat Dale, John Devlin, Jean Fox, David Melcher, and Chris Walsh.  President Kirsten Nelson and her husband, Jeff, will attach a Richfield Rotary donation plaque to each LFL.  The photos below show the LFL installations in process, along with some happy recipients!

Program:  Richfield Mayor Maria Regan Gonzalez - "Cultivating Civic Engagement in Richfield"

Mayor Maria Regan Gonzalez described Richfield as a city in transition, with a new City Manager (Katie Rodriguez), a new mayor and several changes on the City Council.  City services are strong, with new efforts to strengthen engagement with the city’s diverse residents, including a goal-setting process in 2020 that will include opportunities for community engagement.
Maria received a Bush Leadership Fellowship, and will use the associated grant funds to focus on ways of building “civic capital” through engagement.  Considerations include a “City of Kindness” event that builds connectivity and paid time off for city employees to volunteer in the community.  On a personal level, Maria appreciates her past connections to Rotary and hopes to be able to attend more meetings in the future.
