Induction of New Members

A “Richfield Rotary Relaunch” commenced this summer with the goal of creating what will essentially be a “new” Richfield Rotary Club with a majority of members who live, work, and / or do business in the Richfield area.   New members will be inducted over time as applications are received and approved by the membership.  Three new members are scheduled for induction at the November 7 meeting:  Karen Crane, Ella Lingat, and Marta Shahsavand (shared membership with Latanya Daniels).  See separate article below for more information about our proposed members.

Each new member will have an opportunity to tell a little bit about themselves, their professional activities, and their families.
Richfield Rotary will benefit from the ideas, enthusiasm, and community connections each of these individuals will bring to the club!   Please welcome them!

Business / Action Items

There will be several items, including discussion and action concerning the Richfield Rotary Dictionary Project.

Program:  “Perspectives on Richfield from the Richfield Foundation” - Steve Schneeberger and Claire Plank Gahler

Richfield Foundation Board members Steve Schneeberger and Claire Plank Gahler will tell us about the Richfield Foundation and share their perspectives regarding key areas of need within Richfield for both monetary and volunteer support.  Steve and Claire have served on the Richfield Foundation Board for several years.  Steve previously served as the Treasurer of the Board and Claire has co-chaired the annual Wine Event for the past few years.  This presentation will help inform club decision-making regarding priorities for future spending and service, so please make every effort to attend!

Meeting Highlights

OCTOBER 17, 2019 MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

President-Elect John DeBettignies presided at the meeting, in the absence of President Barb Devlin.

Club members welcomed guests Karen Crane and Ella Lingat, both of whom were announced as applicants for membership.

Richfield City Manager Katie Rodriguez and technical production consultant Brandt Krueger were inducted into membership.  Katie and Brandt both see membership in Richfield Rotary as a way of making a difference in the Richfield community.  Welcome, Katie and Brandt!

The new member inductions are all a part of our “Richfield Rotary Relaunch, " with the goal of creating what will essentially be a “new” Richfield Rotary Club with a majority of members who live, work, and / or do business in the Richfield area.   Both new and veteran members are encouraged to identify possible candidates for membership and encourage them to become a part of Richfield Rotary!

Announcing  Applicants for Membership

Three applicants are scheduled for induction at our November 7 meeting, following two or more prior announcements to the club.

Karen Crane is the Manager of the Richfield Branch of RBCU.  Karen grew up in Richfield, graduating from Richfield High School.  Karen was a stand-out fast pitch softball player at RHS, and now coaches girls fast pitch softball.  Karen is interested in Richfield Rotary membership as a way of building on her connections to the Richfield community.

Ella Lingat (left) is a financial advisor with AXA Advisors, LLC.   She is a recent graduate of the University of Minnesota in the area of applied economics and will easily be the youngest member of our club!   As a financial advisor, Ella helps her clients understand their current financial situation and determine their goals and priorities.  Hopefully, she will share her expertise in planning and priority setting with Richfield Rotary as well!

Marta Shahsavand serves as the Principal of Richfield Dual Language School.  Marta would like to share a membership with Latanya Daniels, Principal of Richfield High School.  Latanya is already a member and will remain the “official” member.  However, with a shared membership, Latanya and Marta will share participation in club meetings and activities.

Richfield Mayor Maria Regan Gonzalez and City Council Member Simon Trautmann have previously been announced and will be inducted as shared members at a future meeting.
