Program:  Amy Markle, Recreation Services Director for the City of Richfield

Amy introduced herself, described key department projects and activities, and suggested ways in which Richfield Rotary and / or other community organizations and individuals can help.  Possible areas of involvement include:
  1. Help City staff with construction of new playground structures at Washington Park (May 30) and Madison Park (June 14).
  2. Make a monetary contribution or assist with fund-raising to support construction of a universally accessible playground at Augsburg Park, which would be a “destination playground” in the South metro area.  The City has raised $510,000 of the $700,000 needed to begin construction, hopefully in 2020.  Amy noted that there are multiple levels of sponsorship, which will be recognized.
  3. Construction of an off-leash dog area (dog park) within Roosevelt Park, sometime in early summer, 2020.  There will be separate fenced in areas for both large and small dogs.  Possible areas for ongoing involvement include periodic park clean-up and sponsorship of 2-3 “doggy do” bag dispensers, with restocking on a regular basis.
  4. Provide volunteer assistance for the July 25 Urban Half Marathon.
  5. Attend the Friends of Woodlake Dinner in April, the proceeds of which are used to fund a naturalist position at Woodlake Nature Center.  If enough Rotarians sign up to attend, we can sponsor an entire Rotary table.
